I was such a mess during LOK's ending. A babbling, crying, excited mess.
First sad tears because I had to accept that it's over. We may get comics in the future like we did for ATLA but no new series or continuation. (For now........we can only hope..!
) And then happy tears because Mike and Bryan did something I had small hope for. They took KOrra and Asami's friendship to a whole new, beautiful level. I can proudly say that the moment Asami slyly removed Tenzin from the screen and Korra asked to sit with her, I felt the romance. I don't give a fuck if they didn't end up kissing. The way they sat beside each other, spoke to each other, hugged, touched, and ended with that look of pure love....*excuse me while I swoon* No kiss was needed to tell me and many others that romance was oozing from the final scenes. As a bisexual woman, this meant so much to me and didn't feel like pandering. I know others who may have felt this, both anti and supporters of korrasami, but I don't care, That ending filled me with so much happiness I thought my heart was going to burst through my chest! Ok, this journal is sounding super corny, I know. It's just I'm still feeling elated and no one can take that away from me. Ship what you want to of course, but no one can ever say to me that korrasami isn't real or didn't happen. I just wish people would realize you can be best friends with your lover. I do love the friendship of the Krew as a whole, but there is something special about korra and asami's bond. They really do balance each other. And most important of all, their relationship is healthy on both ends. And they are happy together.
I know some people feel upset that a lot of the focus is being put on the endgame pairing instead of the show ending or other parts of the final. Well, it's a big deal. Especially for the lgbt+ community. We have two lovely, woc, queer ladies being represented in a healthy, loving relationship on a show that's aimed mostly towards children. That's huge for so many and needs to be discussed! I feel we should just let others do what they want and enjoy certain aspects of the ending more than others. Who cares if some are only in it for the shipping. I personally do care about the other stuff besides the pairings. Korra's development might be the most important thing to me that came from this series though it is definitely tied with korrasami.
So thank you to Bryan and Mike for this series. I may have had a few problems with how it was written at times but it was a great pleasure to have watched it from beginning to end. ATLA was something real special for me when I watched it all those years ago and I'm so happy LOK exists.
